A quick test post for posting photos from my mobile.

I’ve been absent here on the blog this summer, but not forgotten. I am going to catching up on some posts as life slows for a minute. Above, is an outtake of my 2-year-old son testing the lights for a photo booth project I’m working on with my church.

When most people think of hip hop and rappers, Seattle is not the first city to come to mind. And even if you do think of Seattle’s hip hop scene, I’d bet a few pennies that the city’s Eastside suburbs that house companies the likes of Microsoft, would not be in the conversation. Seattle-grown hip hop artists currently making a buzz include Macklemore and Blue Scholars, and I’d be remiss not to remind you of Sir Mix-A-Lot. I recently photographed three rappers in various stages of their careers that are breaking through this affluent suburb stereotype. Above, rapper Neema performs a live show in Everett, WA. Portraits after the jump…

I had the good fortune to be the replacement for my friend’s very pregnant wife and attend the U2 concert at Qwest Field on Saturday, June 4, 2011. An enormous production top say the least, with “The Claw” over the stage, made for an impressive visual presentation along with great music performance of the renowned Irish rock band and 74,000 fans. It was not a working night, so the ol’ beat up iPhone camera got to fire off a few frames to commemorate the night, and wanted to share a few here on the blog. Can’t take the photojournalist out of me, as I like crowd shots. More photos after the jump…

Definitely quiet here on the blog of late, and this post is off topic in regards to photography… I’m off to the home opener for the Seattle Mariners tonight, and there’s a big change this season… Hall of fame broadcaster Dave Niehaus’ voice was silenced this offseason. A vivid memory of my childhood growing up, working out in a field with the radio cranked up, well before the days of .500 baseball. Above is a musical tribute by Seattle hip hop artist Macklemore, who will be performing before the game. Undoubtedly I’m going to shed a tear or two for the passing of a part of my childhood. RIP Dave.

Recently spent some time unwinding with my family along the Washington coast in Ocean Shores. A few of my favorite snaps from a blustery January day after the jump…

Watch this. ’Nuf said. Hat tip to my buddy Scotty R. for for pointing me to this piece.

I ran across this video from last nights snow in Seattle, which many are calling “snoverrated” after much media hype, and it looks like some folks were out having some fun. Enjoy!

A sequence of the full lunar eclipse through a thin cloud cover over Shoreline, WA, on December 20, 2010. We had a lot of clouds and even rain showers around the region and I thought for a bit I was going to miss the event, but in an attempt to perservere, I laid the seat back in my car in the driveway and watched through the moonroof, sporadically opening it to capture a frame between clouds and rain drops. Then as the full eclipse hit, I got about two minutes of clear sky. Just enough frames to stitch a little sequence together in Photoshop. For gear heads, I used a Nikon D300 and 400mm f/2.8 lens, and cropped the image tighter in post production. Below a single of the full lunar eclipse.

The full lunar eclipse photographed at 11:43 p.m. as momentarily viewed between a shifting cloud cover in Shoreline, WA, on Monday, December 20, 2010. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

It’s that time where we have an onslaught of “best of” lists and trips down memory lane. It’s a given that I’m going to click through just about an gallery that involves photography and thought I’d round them up here on the blog so I could have a spot to find them again, and so you could check them out too. I’ll give an update note when I add more picture links to the list. Enjoy the feast!
