Taking a minute to share some recent frames from my Holga. Kodak Portra 400VC for you film geeks. Lately I’ve had the urge to shoot some film again and keeping it simple. I recently became another statistic in the decline of newspapers as I was laid off from my staff photographer position. A sequence of the full lunar eclipse through a thin cloud cover over Shoreline, WA, on December 20, 2010. We had a lot of clouds and even rain showers around the region and I thought for a bit I was going to miss the event, but in an attempt to perservere, I laid the seat back in my car in the driveway and watched through the moonroof, sporadically opening it to capture a frame between clouds and rain drops. Then as the full eclipse hit, I got about two minutes of clear sky. Just enough frames to stitch a little sequence together in Photoshop. For gear heads, I used a Nikon D300 and 400mm f/2.8 lens, and cropped the image tighter in post production. Below a single of the full lunar eclipse.

Winter is upon us here in the Pacific Northwest and mountain pass road reports are essential. The WSDOT has a free app for iPhone and Android that has traffic, pass reports, ferries and more for the whole state of Washington. For iPhone users I hear there is an update in the next week or so that will also include pass camera to see that fresh snowfall! Truly useful source of travel info.

I was shown this preview for “All.I.Can.” by my buddy Ian this week and wanted to share it here with you. I’ve seen a lot of ski movies, but this creates a fresh look and feel to the footage using time lapse. Can’t wait to see the whole thing when it is released. For all those mountain goers out there, pray for snow!
A quick tearsheet post to start 2010… As the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver draw near, I was assigned an editorial photo shoot about curling by Seattle Metropolitan magazine which recently hit the news stand in the January issue. The shoot took place at Granite Curling Club in Seattle, the only dedicated ice for curling in the Western U.S.
Had the opportunity to sneak out into the mountains for a great first day of early season turns at Stevens Pass last week. Jammed a single camera body in the backpack with a wide angle lens to make a couple snaps to document the day. Maybe I’ll find some time to pull some winter image faves from the archive to stoke the ski season fire… For now enjoy the quick hits!
